In version <=4 ->: you could pass as many arguments as you wanted, and it would let you, ->: regardless of how many the other program expected. In version >= 5 ->: you MUST pass in the correct number, or you will get a runtime error. -> ->Well, no. There isn't a version 5 4GL at all. I believe you're thinking of ->4GL version 4.10. -> ->Version 4.10 4GL added a lot of error checking that wasn't done in 4.00. This [bunch of stuff clipped] Actually, there were some changes made somewhere between our old version of 4gl which was >= 4.12 (I don't remember exactly) and our current version of 4gl which is 6.01.UD2. There is some additional error checking on number of arguments, I imagine it was needed in order to better support the now supported -z flag which allows variable numbers of arguments to be passed to functions. Basically, you need to stay at versions 4.xx of 4gl for versions 5.xx and lower of the engine. It is highly recommended that you go to versions 6.xx of 4gl if you are at versions 6.xx or higher of the engine. The main difference in the 6.xx versions of 4gl should be that it knows how to communicate properly with the new (6.xx and up) engine design. If you stay with you old 4gl 4.xx or on a 6.xx or higher engine, you will have to go through a relay module, and this can cause you to take some performance hits (I've heard they can be significant, but I had no desire to try using the relay module, so I don't speak from first hand experience).
