Re: Constraint question

I finally figured it out, and would also like to thank Dave Cortesi of Informix for his help. (I've offered to send him bananas for the baboons to have a party). Barbara and I both understood "constraints" to apply to _any_ kind of constraint on data within a column, not just a uniqueness constraint. For instance, we consider create table ... (c1 integer not null constraint (c1 >= 100 and c1 < 1000), to be a constraint that c1 be a 3 digit number, and create table ... (c1 integer, c2 integer, c3 integer, constraint (c1 < c2 and c2 < c3)) to be a constraint on the relative values of c1, c2 and c3. We didn't see the constraints given in the form above, but we both believed this information was provided elsewhere. _Nowhere_ does it clearly state that only uniqueness constraints are supported (actually uniqueness, primary key or referential constraints), or at least nowhere that a reasonably dilligent person would find via the indices and other pointers. Moreover the final paragraph on constraints on page 7-69R makes a reference to "data restriction on a column", lending support to our [mis]interpretation. -- Bear Giles bear@fsl.noaa.gov -<My views rarely reflect those of my employer or the Federal government>-
