Ontape to hard disk failure

Hi
I'm having problem to do ontape level 0 to hard disk. In onmonitor : the
device location is pointing to a file /disk8/data with 16 block size and 5 GB
size.
After 40% of the backup, the system prompt a below error message:-
Archive failed - function write to tape failed code -l errno 27.
At this time the size of /disk8/data is about 2.7 GB
We did simulation by creating one large file via mkfile command in Solaris
with 3 GB size in the samefile system and we managed to create it.
Is there a limitation on Informix in term of ontape backup to hard disk. Base
on the simulation did, the OS do not have a limitation.
Note: IDS version 7.31.UC2 Solaris 5.6
Can somebody advise on this.Is there a better solution for this.
In
that version a file is limited by l_seek to 2Gb. You can archive to tape or
raw disk greater than 2Gb OR upgrade to 9.40.

Hi,
we are on HP-UX, but I think our solution could work with Solaris, too:
We have set LTAPEDEV to a named pipe and in that case no 2 GB limit exists.
We write the backup date to a compressed file (gzip), but I think you can
write to a normal file with cat instead of gzip , too:
onconfig: LTAPEDEV ltape.pipe
mknod ltape.pipe p
gzip < ltape.pipe > ltape.file &
ontape -s -L 0
You MUST try to do a restore from that backup at least once - we had some
troubles with block size and reading from the pipe. Our solution was to fake
an remote restore:
Give informix the rsh/rcmd/rlogin permission to the local machine and change
the LTAPEDEV entry (just for the restore) to:
LTAPEDEV <hostname>:<pathname>/ltape.pipe
You have to do the restore with two sessions, one reading from the file into
the pipe and one session running ontape -r .
