For (2) 32 bit integers, and mapping (6) bits to a (printable) character, you'll need (11) characters to get 2^64 (about 1.8e+19) values. The scheme can be extended almost without limit by increasing the length of the string. I did this in an application which required network-wide unique keys, and did not want to carry composite keys in every table. Peter Sylvester Mitre Corp.
