(According to the TPC-C > results I have seen the price/performance isn't even very good.) If you refer to the tests done by Transaction Processing Performance Council (http://www.tpc.org) I agree about the price/performance aspect. However, it is quite clear that the hardware used in these tests is very much overkill. In the test with SQL-Server and HP LH Pro (2*PPro) (http://www.tpc.org/results/individual_results/HP/hplhes.pdf) they used 65(!) harddisks, 4 RAID controllers and 1 GB RAM. This is not a very realistic system. If all this power is necessary it is probably wiser to use a DEC-Alpha system, or something alike. I'm in the middle of setting up an Infomix server based on the HP LH Pro and I calculate with a cost of about $8/TPC-C. Yours /Nils Paulsson
