If this is truely what the sales person suggested he's living on cloud 9. This
is dream world stuff. How would it deal with referential integrity and check
constraints and transactions that are predicated on the basis of previous
transactions? How would it trap the communication between the application and
Informix?
I don't know all the players on the market but have a chat with Spectralogic on
library@spectra.wall.com (+1 303 449 7759). They have a tape library system
and Alexandria backup software that can do mass backups using ontape. I'm not
fully upto date with the details on fully online backup but it does appear to
work even though it may not be legally supported by Informix. It will be fully
compatible with the new mass storage backup software API that Informix will be
releasing shortly.
