Updating by means of a "WHERE CURRENT OF" syntax was only good if you didn't ( and don't ) need to use the ORDER BY syntax. If I used a Next-Previous fetch looking for a ROWID instead of something else, I knew ( and know ) I updated the right row. There's probably another way, I learn something new every day. But it's sad too, that soon everyone will be querying across networks instead of vt100 terminal sessions, and selected set management will soon become something you'll be paying attention too. To say say it's some kind of "good thing it doesn't exist" doesn't really make any sense. I think it would have been just as easy to retain the unique ROWIDs across fragments, but hey, I'm no computer scientist. Had INFORMIX retained this feature we wouldn't even be having this chat. Now I incur the extra overhead of serial keys all over the application and data base. No big deal.
