So running apps can see the sqlhosts file and msg > files for the engine. That's enough? My eventual technique was: 1) install engine - of course 2) foreach 4GL version 2.a) install 4GL 2.b) move fglpc, form4gl, fglgo, fgldb to fglpc.720, form4gl.720, ..... 2.c) move a few directories such as lib/tools, include/tools to lib/tools.720, .... I don't remember the full list now but would have to inspect an existing machine 3) create scripts called fglpc, form4gl etc which use a shell variable called $PCODE to exec the appropriate version of the original program. Not nearly as elegant as your technique. I must give it a try. With our use of FourJs, there's no real problem because it lives under it's own $FGLDIR, so it's easy to support a few different versions for customers. Just a little bit of magic within the building and runtime scripts, and the objects can all be built in parallel and co-exist in seamless peaceful harmony...
