Reconnecting After Checkpoint?

Hello, I have a query intensive c++ app running under Informix 9.12 on a solaris2.5. After approximately 15,000 queries Informix stops responding and refuses to let my app reconnect. This appears to happen after Informix has initiated a checkpoint. Is there any way to know when the checkpoint has completed? Is there anything special I need to do within my app to reconnect to the server after a checkpoint?
