New Era and Crystal Reports

Posing a question for a colleague. I am not sure of the exact details so bear with me. Basically, they want to run a New Era 2.20 app and Crystal reports at the same time using an ODBC link. However, there seems to be a problem with the two applications using the same data source at the same time. Is this a known problem? Is there any way around this and has anyone done this already?
