Re: WingZ - nobody knows ???

At the Informix Worldwide User Conference last July, the message was that Wingz would stop at version 2.0, and any future spreadseheet development from Informix would be included in HyperScript Tools. HST includes a spreadsheet tool which is essentially Wingz 2.0. Since then, I don't think Wingz 2.0 has been released on any platform; HST has been released for Windows, I think it's now out for Motif, and Informix is trying to decide if they will continue to support the Macintosh platform. I've become increasingly frustrated with Informix for the way they have dragged this out. We met with our sales rep & VP sales in early November to discuss our concern that Informix would not continue to support us Mac users. We were promised an answer by Thanksgiving. Well, it's almost Chistmas and still no answer. From what I've been able to piece together from various unofficial sources, Informix is spinning-off a wholly-owned subsidiary to do all their HyperScript development & maintenance. Apparently it's taking quite a while to set-up this HyperScript subsidiary, and that directly impacts the Mac support decision. The unspoken message I receive is that Mac users should not expect anything from Informix in the near future, if ever. IMHO that's a real shame; my project has stuck with Wingz because nothing else on the market offers the flexibility of HyperScript. Well, if Excel 5.0 comes through with its promise of using Visual Basic instead of its current macro language, I think I might be persuaded to switch spreadsheets. At least Microsoft updates their software on a regular basis.
