FYI: The post below has my name on it, but I don't know who sent it, because it wasn't me. To whoever sent it: Please do not spoof my name. In regards to his question: You had three years from your initial purchase of 7.3 to upgrade to the 9.x version for only the difference in the cost of the license. If your VAR is not reselling IBM support, contact an IBM partner like Kazer (www.kazer.com) or a similar company. They can set you up with real IBM support (Passport Advantage, etc.) and sell it to you with a discount. This will allow downloadable upgrades, and free 24/7 tech support. --EEM > -----Original Message----- > From: Everett Mills > Sent: Wednesday, October 19, 2005 11:59 AM > To: informix-list@iiug.org > Subject: Informix costs > > I am curious what the average person in the USA pays for Informix support > and > IDS 9. The original post (which didn't to me appear to come from you when I read it on cdi, so I think Richard Harnden has it right that it's a informix-list thing) suggests strongly that John has bought Informix support from an ISV as part of a supplied application. If that is so, the rules are very different from a Passport Advantage (PA) account, and IBM treats the two very differently. The Captain put it all rather well in his post. Anyway, if John has an ISV support contract then I doubt if Kazer or anyone else will be able to help him, becuase there is no provision for an ISV-based "licence" to be transitioned into PA. I am unaware that you have only 3 years to buy a v7 -> v9 trade-up licence. Maybe that's an Americas thing. Here in EMEA you don't actually pay "the difference in the cost of the licence" - v7 and v9 are identically priced - but it's true that you do have to pay a trade-up fee.
