Attach fragment from a table in another database

Hi Folks (capitalized! :-) My client just asked me the wildest question: > if there is a fragment associated with one database like dbase_1@my_server, > can that fragment be detached and moved to another table on another database > like dbase_2@myserver? Actually, he asked if the detached fragment could be attached to a table in a different server. To that the answer is surely NO, since it is the identical work to select from the detached fragment (now a table) to insert into a new table on the second server. But considering the internal structures that delineate the pages of tablespace, it is possible to attach that detached fragment to a table in another database on the *same* server? My bets are with NO on this one as well but I figured I would ask the experts before being such a naysayer. Thanks much. -- Jacob S.
Jacob: To your surprise you can do scenario #1, but you can not do scenario #2. Scenario #1 is generally referred to as sharding a table (the ability to keep parts of a table on different servers) and this functionality was introduced into version 12.10.xC2. John F. What John tried to say (decoded): Jacob: To your surprise you can do scenario #1, but you can not do scenario #2.
