Since in 5.xx each user effectively has his own copy of the database running (sqlturbo) there needs to be a monitor to prevent problems between all of these processes, tbinit is it. If a client program exits, ^C's, or looses their connection to the database (like powering off their PC or quiting windows while the app is connected) the sqlturbo will exit as well but without neccessarily cleaning up completely. To prevent any database damage or data loss the tbinit will, in this case, shutdown all sqlturbos and the engine data structures as cleanly as possible immediately. Solution: Upgrade to 7.3x which does not suffer from this problem. This has always been a 5.xx problem but it is possible that 5.10 is better at detecting defunct connections from remote clients. Something that caused other problems with earlier 5.xx versions was the poor disconnect detection. Such a fix would explain why you are seeing this more often. Meantime, until going to 7.3x, beat up on the users to always exit gracefully from the applications before shutting down their PCs. Art S. Kagel
