Serial

Jack, Maybe serial is the answer, but sometimes there are sets of numbers that will be used by different sets of users, etc. and a flag field can be added to take care of which user/group/type of next number is required. Like we create numbers created that have the form of "E12345" + four_digit_juliandt + next_seq_nbr For a period of 1 day starting with 0 each day, several groups have a block of numbers. Besides, I have had trouble with serial numbers, later when I want to remove sets of numbers, or completed records and then restart my numbers.
