Re: Informix support: Where are you?

Regarding the problems with support and update policies: I have had similar problems with Oracle, Unify, and DEC. It seems the problems are endemic to the industry, indeed, considered the acceptable way to do business. "Voting with your checkbook (or feet)" hardly does anything, as no one cares. Suing the <insert bad name here>'s hardly even does anything. Since all these companies only have a short-term reward system (make the sale NOW, don't worry if it works), the problem is hopeless. The best you can do is complain a lot. If everyone complains, maybe they will listen. Hopefully, some bright person somewhere will pick up on the fact that this is a service industry, and a successful company will be perceived as serving. People perceived IBM as having that attitude until they grew too big and started in with the "You'll take what we give you and be happy about it" crap. The quality of products does not matter in this economy - only marketing. It shouldn't be that way. -- INTERNET: tumidity@netlink.cts.com (Joel Garry) UUCP: ...!nosc!ryptyde!netlink!tumidity NetLink Online Communications * Public Access in San Diego, CA (619) 435-6181
