SQL Forms

I am involved in writing forms for an inventory system, in INFORMIX SQL 4.10. I have shipping information (like, item_code, quantity_shipped, shipping_date) in "item" table, and stock information (like, item_code, quantity_on_hand) in "stock" table. My problem is to update stock.quantity_on_hand automatically, when item.quantity_shipped is entered for a certain item_code. INFORMIX-SQL FORMS do not allow updating fields across tables.
