I do also think that whatever you do one important point is just this, not to run anything but the database and it's applications on the same server if at all possible. For many purposes this is no longer a problem with the current hardware prices. Of course if you stipulate that Unix have to mean HP, IBM or Sun RISC you may be out of luck. But why do that when you can get the same performance at a much lower cost from a PC server up to a size that keeps increasing?
