LOTOFILE Function

Gang, We have a table that contains individual pages of say a book. These pages are currently being stored in a byte column. We are using the LOTOFILE function to create a tiff file for each page of the book. This works perfectly. Now the powers to be want these pages placed into a single file that can be read by a windows viewer. Tried cat file2 >> file1. Did a wc -l on file1 and the count equaled the count for file1 before the merge and file2. The viewer only would show the first page. Does anyone know of a work around? IDS 10.X on SUN 10 Thanks, Sam
Hi, not sure I completely understand what you are trying to do. If you have the "pages" as an image ("tiff" = tagged image file format), to my knowledge there is no way to put several images into one such file (TIFF, JPEG, or other) to later be viewed serially (one by one). There is something called "animated GIF" where you can put several pictures as "frames" into one. But this then is more like a video clip. Many moving pictures and icons you see in the web are done like this. But for your purpose I think this is not useful. :-( A more useful format for your purpose probably is PDF. I know there exist scanners that can scan multiple pages (and that's then multiple images) and put them into one PDF file where one image represents one page. But I don't know the details of how this is done. You'd have to do some research on this. Hello. It sounds like you are using windows fax viewer. Those tiff files are specially encoded. You need an encoder for multi page TIFF files. It is not an Informix issue.
