Francisco Luis Maciel I think it all comes down to people. Are you going to hire a consultant, new staff or do the work with existing personnel? If you plan on hiring a consultant, let the consultant provide input. If you plan on hiring new personnel, what is the availability of Oracle vs Informix experts in your area. And if your existing staff are all experts in one, don't use the other. Note also, if you are planning on using client/server, the choice of client software should also be considered. Powerbuilder and Visual Basic/Visual C++ are the two most popular products and they belong to Sybase and Microsoft , respectively, so you should also factor Sybase and SQLServer into your equation. There are also technical features of Informix and Oracle that might make one more appropriate than the other for a given application, but without knowing more about your intended use, it is hard to make a generalization. In the UNIX marketplace, Oracle, Sybase and Informix are 1/2/3 and control almost 80% of the market. This means that all three have solved a lot of people's problems. Hal
