DBF into Informix

This is probably a newby question, for I am a newby at databases, but I did hunt for an faq and I did hunt through mountains of printed and online docs, and so I plead and post and hope for clue..... I'm trying to import a .dbf file into an Informix database. I feel like the answer is staring me in the face somewhere, but without writing some ugly perl scripts I can't seem to get it into the database appropriately. I'm running Informix 7.12 on and SGI, btw. Also, none of the .pdf manuals (phew!) had docs on the dbimport command syntax, although it sounds promising as a likely candidate to help. If someone could outline the steps or point me toward a reference that really has the answer, I'd appreciate it immensely and I'll be on comp.unix.solaris for the next time you have a sys admin question!!
