Simple Unix Text Editor

I am looking for a simple text editor that I can call from a 4gl program that will allow users to edit text documents. The only requirement is that it have word wrap, and be available as a "C" source module so that I can compile it for my host. Currently, I use EMACS but that's a little cryptic for my non-computer literate users and it's LARGE. This program doesn't have to run from within Informix, I'll spawn a shell and pass the editor a file name, let the user edit it and then process the resulting text file back into my program.
