Problem with Informix index sizing documentation?

Informix OnLine 6.0 and 7.1 documentation give the following calculation for estimating the size of a typical index entry: entrysize = keysize + 5 / pctunique but consider what happens as pctuinique approaches zero (highly duplicate index). entrysize (and index pages) approaches infinity! Informix OnLine 5.0 gave a much more reasonable forumla: entrysize = keysize * pctunique + 4 This makes more sense to me, since keys appear only once per unique value, plus 4 bytes to store the rowid for every row. Has anyone else questioned this? Am I misunderstanding the meaning of entrysize or pctunique? Anyone from Informix care to comment? Thanks, -Dave -- dschmitt@netcom.com
