They exist, after a fashion, but their use is highly non-recommended. If your table is not fragmented, rowids exist as before. If your table is fragmented, then rowids still exist, but a single rowid may represent more than one row -- because each fragment reuses rowids. Thus, your code which expects to select a single row using a rowid will fail because it gets multiple rows, or you will update (or delete) several rows where you intended to process just one row, or whatever. You can, however, add a physical ROWID column (as opposed to a virtual column for traditional rowids), which is like a second serial column except the system assigns the numbers.
