Many thanks Art, Stefan and David for your suggestions. You certainly have given me plenty to think about. Unfortunately I do not have access to an environment where I can explore the various options :-( Being able to determine the current sizes of the data and the indexes I have opted to continue to fragment the table across the 5 existing DBspaces and create a new DBspace for each index. This will ensure that any extents created are always contiguous. I have allowed 50 % extra for growth and will monitor growth rates. I have relatively recently taken up my current position and have yet to implement appropriate monitoring on our customer sites. You know what it's like, finding the time...;-) thanks again Pete
