Hi all:
I need to change the PATH of all my chunks in my body. For this I must do the
following:
1. backup online full:
$ ontape-s-L 0
2. rename file to create chunks:
-- sintaxis: old_chunk old_offset new_chunk new_offset
archivo_rename.txt:
/ usr/informix/devices/chunk1 0 / usr/informix/raws/chunk1 0
3. Restore:
$ ontape-r-f rename archive_rename.txt
My question is:
- The copy rename archive_rename.txt
that is correct?
- It is necessary to offset any different?
Thanks

Looks right, you need spaces between the -r and the -f (I think). On=
e thing
that frequently catches me is the need to have $ONCONFIG reflect the =
value
of the RESTORING ROOTDBS, not the current rootdbs, so if you have bui=
ld your
database from /ifmx/dev and you are restoring from /opt/informix/dev,=
the
first thing you need to do is edit your $ONCONFIG and set the value i=
n there
to reflect the /opt/informix/dev value. The restore process will upd=
ate
rootdbs to the "new" (old) value. Otherwise, the procedure is pretty
bulletproof, I've made mistakes in my rename file and had to go throu=
gh 4-6
iterations to get it right - Informix is forgiving there.

I've found the "rename on restore" one of the most useful features added in a
long time. Restoring production to QA, development and training systems has
become much easier, including multiple instances on the same server! And yes,
making sure ROOTPATH is named like the original is probably the biggest
'gotcha' in the process.
