Defining Informix Errors?

Is there a way to define your own error numbers in Informix? We are using Informix OL 5.0, talking to it via I-Net on the PC. We would like to be able to raise an exception within a stored procedure, if a certain business rule is violated. The ideal situation would be to define our own error number and error text, raise the exception in the SP and let our front-end handle this as if it were any other error.
