Neil Truby asked if IDS 9.20 could be upgraded straight to the latest 9.40. Andrew said he had done it from 9.21 with no 9.30 step: backup, install over the old directory, reinitialise, let the conversion run, bounce, then update statistics. He thought an interim step was needed only from 7.x. Andrew Hamm doubted this. Neil thanked him.

Thaks. And you didn't have to upgrade to 9.30 as an intermediate step or
anything?

Nope - all I did was take a backup, copy the Informix directory - install
into the current directory, reinitialise, wait for the db up upgrade to the
new file format (few minutes on a 150Gb+ instance) bounced the server -
update statistics, consistency checking and Bob's yer transvestire Aunty.Think it's only from 7.x that you have to do an interim
