ontape quits with error

Hello,
we are just facing a problem of maybe ontape or something else:
we have two servers, one on a hpux11 system another on a SUSe linux both IDS
version 10.00.
with dbaccess on linux I transfer a complete database from hpux. After a while
the logs run full and the transfer stops and this morning I tried to backup
the logs with ontape. Unfortunately ontape quits with the following error:
~> ontape -s
08:38:25 shmat: [22]: operating system error
08:38:25 Client could not attach server shared memory segment, use
IFX_XFER_SHMBASE.
Server is in an incompatible state or user authentication failed.
Program over.
There is no way to continue whatever action: server will not stop, backup does
not work, linux does not shutdown. The only way was to push the OFF button and
after restart and backing up logical logs with ontape IDS is there again.
online.log only says:
Logical Log Files are Full -- Backup is Needed
what happened?
Richard
Hi,
We once had a similar problem with 9.40 (or 9.30, I cannot remember).
If you are using (as I almost expect) a 32bit release on Linux, the initial
shared memory size might be the problem (was in our case). We found out that
an initial shared memory segment > 800 MB lead to the inability to run
ontape. We simply set SHMVIRTSIZE = 800000 and SHMADD to 100000 (or higher,
as you need).
Note that our experience was on a different platform (Solaris 9, SPARC), but
the effect sounds like same problem.
Its worth a try.
Marcus

Thanks for your fast response, I detected, that we are using a 32bit IDS on a 64-bit linux platform. I first install the 64-bit version and then I'll see. Richard
