r-services and IDS

Does anyone know if IDS7.x or 9.2x,9.3x can communicate or s-services. Basically I need to know what needs to be configured if we disable r-services on our 7.24 instance and begin to use s-services. There is no documentation on s-services until 9.4. It appears that we are forced to use r-services and will not be able to switch. If anyone knows otherwise please inform!! thanks --mike
