IDS 12.10.FC12 Solaris 10 1/13 Consider a new Informix instance with db/sbspaces (all 1 chunk) as follows: 1) dbspace for the database catalog and data tables; 2) dbspace for indexes (16K pages); 3) sbspace for sblobs (photos-- relatively infrequently accessed); 4) root dbspace (with physical log); 5) dbspace for logical log; 6) temp dbspace. If you were constrained to have only three "spindles", A, B, & C (each "spindle" actually a mirrored pair of SSDs), how would you assign spaces to spindles? Thank you. DG
For extra credit, consider having two dbspaces for logical logs (odd and even). DG
Also, please assume that the controller has sufficient bandwidth to accomodate I/O to three spindles, simultaneously. I'm not certain of this (since the drives are SSDs), but, consider the proposition as if the controller were not a bottle neck. FYI, the configuration is as follows: Two controllers. Three SSDs on each controller. The first drive on each controller is a mirrored pair. Same with second and third. So, three mirrored pairs, each of those pairs having one drive on one controller, and the other drive on the other controller. I plan to do some experiments, but, ultimately, am seeking to determine whether there is benefit to placing individual dbspaces and sbspaces on particular drives, or whether one might better obtain even distribution of disk I/O by striping all three mirrored pairs together, and putting all dbspaces and sbspaces on that single stripe of mirrored pairs (RAID 1 "on top" of RAID 0). Figured maybe some knowledgeable opinion might get me a head start. DG
