"Informix products are not the sort that will sell with one exposure" Who's selling Informix products? Do you mean licenses? Renewals? -----Original Message----- From: owner-informix-list@iiug.org [mailto:owner-informix-list@iiug.org] On Behalf Of Christopher Sent: Wednesday, June 01, 2005 11:13 AM To: informix-list@iiug.org Subject: Re: IDS Next Version - features wanted. That may have been true, once, but I doubt it is true for the most part, anyway. More and more, the pointy-haired bosses make the decisions and we geeks just get to implement their brilliant design. When they want advice, they turn to consultants. (As the world is a very big place, the following is for any one does not get the reference to PHB: http://dilbert.com/comics/dilbert/archive/images/dilbert2005050209268.jp g ) One shot will not do it. Period. It does not take a marketing genius to understand that Informix products are not the sort that will sell with one exposure, but for those who want to decide for themselves, simply google "Effective Frequency": http://www.google.com/search?q=%22Effective+Frequency%22 Sincerely, Christopher Coleman President Kansas City Informix Users Group www.iiug.org/kciug Database Analyst Medication Management Mediware Information Systems, Inc. sending to informix-list

Actually, according to the head of DB sales and marketing at IBM, they are. His exact words during the IDUG/IIUG 2005 North America conference last week were: "It may take a few months to get the word out to every salesperson in every sales office, but it will happen. Have a little patience with us, but, if an IBM salesperson indicates otherwise, I want to know about it." At this moment all IBM Data Products advertisements mention Informix exactly as prominently as they do DB2. Not how I would do it, but can we really ask for more than that at this point? Me, I'm willing to wait. Several years ago, when some of us said they did not trust Informix's assurances that they would port to Linux and support it, I said that I believed they would. Some said, give it up it's never going to happen. I said we should give them the chance to back up their promises, and they did. Today I say, give IBM a chance to prove that they finally 'get it' about IDS. I think that they have. Art S. Kagel
