Aborted index build

IDS 11.70FC4 on RHEL. Recently we came to build an index on a large, fragmented table. It took much longer than it had in test and was abandoned. It then took simply ages rolling back (several hours; many times longer than the index build should have taken in the first place!). Anyway, my questions are: - given that we'd set LOG_INDEX_BUILD=0, what work can Informix possibly be doing backing out the aborted index build?? Surely all it has to do is update a couple of free space pointers and should be instantaneous? - I have it in my mind that in older versions aborting an index build (or ALTER TABLE... INIT IN) *was* instantaneous, for the reasons ouitlined above. I'm missing something, aren't I? thanks Neil
