Dirk, Since this is a varchar column the collength is not represenitive of the actual size. The same also applies to decimal,datetime and others. To determine the size is pretty simple. (collength/256)+(collength mod 256) This formula will work for varchar,float,smallfloat,money and decimal. There is also some information about this in the faq i believe.
