jdbc driver - too many open files problem
Posted in 2005
I have a weird problem with using informix jdbc driver 2.21 on Solaris 7. A web application pulls data from a table containg blobs (pictures). The jdbc settings in tomcat's (4.1.30) config file specifies JDBCTEMP=/usr/local/tomcat4/logs/ifxb. When the application is running informix driver puts tmp files in ifxb folder. The problem is that it seems leaving them there forever and not cleaning them. When I run garbage collecton manually like "System.gc ()" the files are being removed, otherwise they (or at least some of them which is many) stay forever, so sooner tomcat reaches the limit of open file descriptors causing too many open files exception. I was blaming on jvm and upgraded to the latest jsdk 1.4.2_05 but the problem persists. Any help? Thanks, Boris Niyazov Columbia Law School
