Backup in NT

Hello all I have a little doubt. I would like to make a complete backup of
some hard disk in NT using a 3rd-part software, so I would like to be able to
stop & start informix with a command file.
I think this is possible, at last in UNIX it is possible ( oninit, onmode -ky
... ), but in NT oninit is not working and all the information I have is about
stoping and starting trough the services manager.
I would like to know do's & don't of doing such backup, if I can start & stop
informix.
Thanks

Hi,
this is just regarding the question how to start and stop the server from through
a script or from the command line. I don't know what exactly you plan to do
regarding database backups and can't comment on that.
There are at least 2 ways to start and stop the server from scripts/command line:
for pre 7.3 versions:
* start with 'starts online' or 'net start online'
* stop with 'onmode -ky' or 'net stop online'
for version 7.3 and later:
* start with 'starts <servername>' or 'net start <servername>'
* stop with 'onmode -ky' or 'net stop <servername>'
All commands would have to be executed as a user with dba priviliges. The net
start/stop commands are probably preferable because there are no requirements
regarding your environment.
Hope this helps, Heiko
