( I didn't invent Java or the GUI stuff out there--wish I had ) :-) In fact, I just had a presentation given to me of Progress. What a great interface builder. I had mentioned VisualCafe to one of the people I work with, and they tell me, "Check this out...". Progess is an impressive product. I couldn't help but notice the similarities to the Visual Cafe interface. This kind of event-driven environment really makes 4GL look primitive. I hate to say it, but Progress was pretty intuitive for <ME>, wanting to find something that has all the bells-n-whistles, but could be used with INFORMIX. They tell me an ODBC connection is all that's needed to make it work with INFORMIX. As far as efficiency, I do think GUI development is far more complex, and will be more time-consuming than the older 4GL world. But really, we have to think in terms of real productivity, valuing good design as much as good coding. The coding is probably going to be just as much or as little as in the past, provided the design effort given to the project. > I'm very interested in your reasoning. > > -- > Ciao, > > Billy > > +------------------------------------------------------------------------------+ > | WARNING: sending me junk-email will be interpreted as granting permission to | > | bomb your offices and machine-gun your children. | > +------------------------------------------------------------------------------+ This really is over the top don't you think?
