performance issue with REL 4 hugemem kernel

Informix: IDS 10.00.UC7
Operating Systems: Red Hat Enterprise Linux Release 4 Update 6 (standard)
Red Hat Enterprise Linux Release 4 Update 6 (hugemem)
I'm running a pretty basic query in java using the JDBC driver. The query is:
select a.column1, b.column2,
from a, b
where a.column3 = a.column4
and upper(?) matches a.column2
and upper(?) matches a.column4
The query on the standard kernel completes in < 1 second. The hugemem kernel
takes > 12 seconds. This is the same IDS install, I'm just switching which
kernel is loaded on boot. The explain output is identical in both instances.
Has anyone else run across this or have any thoughts as to why this may be
occurring and how to correct it?
Thanks.
