In a previous article, billy.wheeler@digitec.co.za (Billy Wheeler) says: > >Even if you do strive for conformance, my immediate gut reaction was >"sounds like people are in different groups" I believe this is in response to my original post but may be a repetition of the same problem by another user. Anyway, a solution has been found. With the help of Pat Dwyer, from the Detroit MI Informix office, we discovered that the permissions on the tbconfig files EVERYWHERE were set to 640 (-rw-r-----) informix informix. Therefore, users other than root and informix could not read the tbconfig file. In my request for detailed information on how tbcheck works, it wasn't mentioned that one of the first operations is to read this file (unlike firing up a 4ge executable). Since the file couldn't be read, tbcheck couldn't run. Pat reset the permissions as shown in online_files, 664, and all was well. In regard to my single site where tbcheck worked for all users, the exception, the permissions were also 640. We now have one site where it works but shouldn't and 1,000+ that work and should, instead of one that works and 1,000+ that don't. We have no idea why it works at this site with incorrect permissions but suspect there is a group level inconsistency there. (How the tbconfig permissions got changed is a mystery.)
