Exit codes

I've got an application written using RDS the has been working well for some time. The program is called from within a shell wrapper. Today I completed a set of mods that allowed users to access "on-key" type help in menus and during inputs. Now, for some reason, if during an input the user uses the delete key to abort an input the program, when finally exitted the shell wrapper aborts. $? returns 208. All this happens even if the aborted input is not the last action prior to leaving the program. I must stress that the program itself doesn't abort - it continues working normally. This error occurs whether or not the on-line help has been accessed. Can anyone shine any light on what may be happening? Thanks in advance.
