Onbar performance

We are making progress with our perfomance issues. Our ADSM server is over worked. It is paging and we have some definite hot disks. When we pointed Onbar away from our diskpool and directly to the storage pool(tape) my performance went from 1gig/hr to 8 gig/hr over the SP's high performance switch. What rate should I expect and over what type of LAN/WAN? I had the diskpool configured so that anything over 2 gig in size should automatically use a tape drive. This never seemed to work on the dbspaces that I have which are larger than 2 gig. Does Informix back up by chunk and since the max size of a chunk is 2 gig this would never work?
