tempdb question

hi all:
I configured two temp db space in my database, temp1, and temp2,
each one uses raw disk about 6 gig.
in my config file, I have the following line:
DBSPACETEMP temp1:temp2 # Default temp dbspaces
I also made a program to check the fullness of the temp dbspace.
when I start running some queries with sorting and grouping, I check
the dbspace, only the first tempdb is used, and when that one is filled
up, the query exits saying out of temp file space. The second one had
some usage, but only around 3%, what do I need to do to make it use both
tempdb equally?
thanks
