Related to this discussion of raw devices and cooked files, I have a question about RAID. What is better for INFORMIX chunks? RAID 1 or RAID 5? Jairo Gubler

RAID 1 or RAID 5? Don't start Art on this - the answer is 42. No - sorry, that's the answer to a different question(*). But it still isn't 5. Check out http://www.baarf.com/ Art's preferred answer is, AFAIK, RAID 10 -- which is either striped mirrors or mirrored stripes, I forget which. You can also Google for 'Kagel RAID Rant' in comp.databases.informix since 2000 and it pulls up a good selection of information on this. -- Jonathan Leffler (jleffler@us.ibm.com) STSM, Informix Database Engineering, IBM Data Management 4100 Bohannon Drive, Menlo Park, CA 94025 Tel: +1 650-926-6921 Tie-Line: 630-6921 "I don't suffer from insanity; I enjoy every minute of it!"
