SE 5.0 Poor Performance

I am using SE 5.0 with a select cursor from a .ec program to read thru a table with about 1.5M rows with about 4 columns per row. The select is taking about 9 hours on an AT&T/GIS 6 processor Model 3555 machine. I traced the problem thru truss on Unix to a buffering issue. Internally SE is using buffers of 1024 bytes which is hardcoded. Much larger block sizes for reads and writes will be required to get any kind of performance. The informix hot-line looked into their records and found this problem had been reported quite often. Their corporate response was to come out with version 7 which allows the buffer size to be set by the user. They do not have a patch for version 5. We were told that the database engine in 5.0 and 7.0 are the same when we purchased version 5. It now appears that relative to performance in this case, we were sold a "pig-in-a-poke". Can anyone confirm this situation. John Estal 708-248-6334 (please email to jwe@ebux1.center.il.ameritech.com)
