Move rootdbs from cooked to raw???
Posted in 1997
I have a client whose admins created a rootdbs in a cooked Unix file. Is there a way to move this to a raw device? I was thinking perhaps of mirroring the rootdbs. The mirror would be on a raw device. Can this be done if the primary chunk is a Unix file? If so, could I drop the chunk which resided on the cooked file? I.e., drop the primary (Unix file), then make the mirror the primary chunk?? Can one change the type of a chunk from Mirror to Primary? If that is so, what are the implications to restoring an archive? The Reserve Pages, as far as I know, keep the pathnames of the *actual* device files originally used to create chunks. I.e.: if you created dbspace_1 using a link /chunk_1_link pointing to /dev/rdsk/slice_1, the reserve pages store the pathname /dev/rdsk/slice_1. Even if you modify the link chunk_1_link to point to /dev/dsk/slice_1 (dsk rather than rdsk). Will an archive restore try to restore to /dev/rdsk/slice_1 or /dev/dsk/slice_1??? I.e., do the archive utilities try to restore to the actual device stored in the reserve pages, or to the symbolic link? -- * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Blah Blah Lounge - "Do You Have Something Smart To Say?"
