Re: newbie question: import a table from a text file

Charlie,
Get the docs about dbload and set your delimiter to tab. dbload
is an extremely useful utility that comes with most Informix packages.
Also standard is the load command, which, supposing (I hope) your
Ascii flat file is structured exactly the way your table is, you
run it thru sed or tr (I'm also supposing you have access to Unix
or Unix utilities; otherwise, may God or Gates help you.) and change
your delimiters from tab to pipe (|) Informix's default. Then, easy
sql using dbaccess -
load from "myfile"
insert into mynewtable;
That's it.
Yours,
Nick
