With the caveat that I've only worked with AIX on the RS 6000 and HPUX on the 9000 series, a binary 0 is not a NULL value. Typically, in an input file, a NULL value will be represented by a line with the delimiters right next to each other, with neither a space nor a number or anything between them. So for a table with something like the following: id integer name char(32) city char(24) and with an input file of: 0||Kalamazoo the id is a binary zero non-null number, but the name is a character field that, since it is given no value in the input file, is loaded as a NULL. If the input file were as follows: 0| |Kalamazoo since the name field -does- have a value (even if it is just a space), it won't be loaded as a NULL.
