It works quite well but CLASSPATH must be set up with great care. Also, the JDBC-ODBC bridge (downloadable from splash.java.com) works with both those ODBC drivers. There is no way around buying an Informix Connect driver. JDK 1.1 beta (downloadable) which includes JDBC stuff also works with the JDBC-Bridge and the above named drivers. My database is Informix Online 7.2 running on HP-UX K400 machine - big database (40 Gig), very fast 4 processor UNIX server with lots of memory. Informix is going to come out with a direct connect (Universal Web Connect?) some time this spring I believe. See their site. Until then you have to go through the ODBC layer, which is not a performance penalty really but a nuisance. Symanetec does not include any informix examples with their dbAnywhere package, but they do define some tables in Oracle and Sybase, so you will have to transform the database declarations. Incidentally, I am using O'Reilly WebSite and I reccomend it for use with java. There are simple but instructive examples of java for both CGI and downloadable applets. You can download their website for evaluation at www.ora.com. Runs on Win 95 or NT. Good luck. FYI I am rburque@holstein.com at work (get my mail their)
