Re: Problem in installation on SCO 5.0.2

Caveat installer!!! 1. So far as I know, you may have a problem if you're limited to 100M Ram on your machine. Then again, maybe not. If you ask the kernel for something it doesn't have, it may just give you a default. 2. The release notes can give you and idea of what to do, but you should remember they apply to a configuration Informix has tested on one of their machines, and probably not one anything like the one you're using. Best they can do is give you notes for their machine on the OS version you're running. More about this in a newsletter from the WAIUG group (that's Wasington, DC, Informix Users Group), in the June 1997 or June 1996 issue. The article, in two consecutive issues, is written by Mike Tinius, an Informix Sytems Engineer, who knows what he's talking about. To get there, start at the IIUG page - www.iiug.org - and look for user groups. 3. Another warning. Don't think by running SCO's sysadmsh you can fix the parameter if it's not allowed. You'll have to bone up on the idtune utility (see man idtune). And don't think you'll be able to remake the kernel if the compiler/linker doesn't like your new setting - it may or may not complain, and just not make a new unix. Too bad. Try again. 4. Stay with it. There are others who have suffered through the same problems.
