Just for historical completeness, I should mention that before Oracle, before
Ingres, even before DB2; there was RIM. The very first implementation of
Codd's RDBMS description was built by Grumman for the Air Force and placed in
the public domain. Of course RIM never was a commercial product, though
MicroRIM eventually appeared in the PC realm based on some of the same source
IB, and it had even fewer tools than Sybase if you can believe it.
